The Prince of Denmark's March is sometimes also known as the Trumpet Voluntary and was composed by Jeremiah Clarke in 1699 for the Organ although Henry Purcell is also though incorrectly credited for writing this piece.
It is a march and it's name suggests that it was written in honour of the Prince of Denmark, who was at the time the consort of Princess Anne who became Queen Anne of Great Britain. Obviously very popular as wedding music it is also used as the march of the Nobel prize laureates at the Nobel ceremonies in Stockholm, Sweden. Jeremiah Clarke (circa.1674-1707) was an English composer in the baroque period.
Born in London and a pupil of John Blow at St Paul's Cathedral Clarke was the first official organist for London's rebuilt St. Paul's Cathedral and he went on to become the organist at the Chapel Royal. Sadly he committed suicide at the age of 33 apparently because of a hopeless infatuation with a beautiful lady. Clarke is best known for composing "The Prince of Denmark's March".
