Sunrise is a happy go lucky Indy Pop song with excellent production and musicianship. Written and recorded by British group Howl Griff and mastered by the legendary Denis Blackman Sunrise features a rich array of musical instruments including Rickenbacker and Gretsch electric guitars, acoustic steel string guitar, electric bass guitar, electric piano, rock drums, shaker and backing vocals. The tempo is medium and the running length is two minutes and twenty four seconds.
Sunrise has quite a retro sixties and early seventies aspect to its sound due to its choice of instruments and the excellent slide guitar motif which is also very reminiscent of George Harrison's slide playing. The song itself is very uplifting and catchy opening with a swinging acoustic guitar and the catchy hook from the slide guitar. The lyrics are warm and inviting and the chorus is like an eruption of excitement and sentiment where The Byrds' type guitar really give the song that quintessential jangly 60s pop sound. Shadow vocals and chirpy electric piano develop the second verse in a positive an pleasant way before the delicious chorus kicks in again. Short and precise, Sunrise is excellent ear candy that is really uplifting and innocent.
In some ways Sunrise is similar to tracks by The Monkeys in that it is very accessible, all inclusive and lots of fun. The arrangement and production are top drawer and well realised while the song as a whole is an excellent example of what a good pop song should be. Excellent material for the media producer needing a light hearted sing along pop song for media aimed at the youth market. Suitable for all kinds of media productions, especially film production, television dramas, television documentaries, web development and pod casts.
