Most people do agree about that the large wave of rock musicians performing during the late 1960s and early 1970s who kick started the country rock genre. They are a plenty and include The Byrds (heavily indebted to Bob Dylan's folk music of the early 1960s), Gram Parsons, Neil Young, Michael Nesmith, Grateful Dead, The Band,Buffalo Springfield, Moby Grape and of course Bob Dylan. The list goes on well into the 1970s with artists such as the Eagles, Little Feat, Linda Ronstadt, The Doobie Brothers and Country Rock today is still very much listened to with schisms such as the alternative country movement.
Country Rock is most certainly song based usually in medium to slow tempo's with a 4/4 time signature. Instrumentation is usually drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar with piano, organ often helping the sound with a lead vocalist fronting the sound, backing vocals and harmonies are also not uncommon.
